Carl's Jr. is testing out a cannabis burger at a location in Denver, Colorado.

CBD has officially made its way into the world of fast food – well, kind of.
For one day, April 20, Carl's Jr. will serve their Rocky Mountain High Cheese Burger Delight with CBD-infused Santa Fe sauce at one of their Denver, Colorado, location
If the burger does well, Carl's Jr. says they are open to making CBD a mainstay on all of their menus. That's welcome news for the growing amount of CBD users across the country. Carl's Jr. head chef Owen Klein recognized CBD's growing popularity and wanted to get ahead of the curve.
"I was sitting down with our head chef Owen Klein, and we were talking about trends," Patty Trevino, senior vice president of brand marketing for Carl's Jr. "We looked at ourselves and said, you know what, let's try [CBD]."
Similar to the market for plant-based products like Beyond Meat, companies are recognizing that CBD is in the infancy of its popularity and far more than a fleeting fad.
"Future Carl's Jr. customers that are younger," said Trevino. "They are more open to different flavors of products, as well as benefits trendy ingredients may offer."
Before excitement for a nationwide CBD burger gets to a fever pitch, we must inform everyone that there are still hurdles to be cleared in terms of CBD use in foods. The FDA has shown a willingness to recognize the health benefits of CBD and separate it from the stigma that follows marijuana, but it'll take a few more years of studies for it to reach overwhelming approval.
Until then, CBD advocates in Denver can spread the word. If you happen to get your hands on one of Carl's Jr.'s CBD burgers, let us know what you think of the taste and how it compares to some of the normal menu items.
